Symptoms & Why the CEM Fails

The CEM (Central Electronic Module) is the hub controlling the immobiliser, central locking, instrument cluster, wipers, lighting and communication between every other module on the car. When it fails you'll typically see:

  • No start / no crank, or cranks but won't fire, with no obvious engine fault
  • Immobiliser light staying on or flashing, key not recognised
  • Dead or flickering instrument cluster — needles not moving, warning lights all on
  • Central locking, windows or wipers working intermittently or not at all
  • Multiple unrelated warning messages appearing together across different systems
  • Corrosion damage from a water leak around the module housing

Why Cloning Instead of Dealer Replacement

A Volvo CEM is matched to your car's immobiliser, VIN and key data. Fit a used replacement without cloning and the car simply won't start — normally meaning a dealer visit and expensive key/module programming. Cloning copies the complete data set (VIN, immobiliser pairing, mileage and configuration) from your original CEM to the replacement, so it drops in and drives with no coding at all.

What You Need to Send

  • Your original CEM (even if faulty — we can usually still read it)
  • The replacement unit with a matching part number
  • Both clearly labelled "Original" and "Replacement", plus your VIN and contact details

If your original is completely unreadable we'll tell you before any further chargeable work — only a small test & return fee applies in that case.

How It Works

  1. 1Purchase this listing
  2. 2Send us BOTH your original CEM and the replacement unit you have sourced (matching part number)
  3. 3Post both securely to our repair centre:
The Vehicle CheckOffice 13, 25 Mollison Avenue
    Enfield, EN3 7NJ
  4. 4We read your original, clone the full data set to the replacement and verify it on the bench
  5. 5Returned by tracked delivery within 3–5 working days, ready to refit
