Which Vehicles This Covers

Symptoms & Fault Codes

Car won't select a gear or stays in N, gear indicator flashing on the dash, "N" flashing with a warning buzzer, juddering or slipping pull-away, clutch actuator motor buzzing or clicking, car stuck in gear at a junction, or a gearbox warning light that comes and goes when hot. Typical stored codes:

  • P0810 — Clutch Position Control Error (the classic MultiMode (MMT) actuator failure)
  • P0900 — Clutch Actuator Circuit / Open
  • P0805 / P0806 / P0807 / P0808 — Clutch position sensor circuit, range/performance, low, high
  • P0919 / P0920 — Gear shift position control error / circuit

What We Repair

These actuators fail in the same places: worn motor brushes and commutator, a tired position sensor, cracked solder joints on the internal board, and worn drive gears / plunger bushes that stop the actuator reaching its learned positions. We fully strip the unit, replace the worn motor components, sensor and gear set as required, resolder the board, re-grease and reassemble, then run it on our bench rig through full stroke cycles before it goes back. This is a repair of your original actuator — the car keeps its learned values, so it refits and drives with no dealer coding. A clutch re-learn / calibration with a diagnostic tool is recommended after refitting (we can advise or carry it out in our Enfield workshop).

Repair vs Replacement

A new MultiMode (MMT) clutch actuator from a main dealer is typically £600 – £1,100 plus fitting and calibration, and used units carry the same fatigue as yours. Repairing your own unit costs £145, keeps the original part number and pairing, and comes with a 12-month warranty.
