VW DQ381 DSG Mechatronic Fault P1735 P1736 | The Vehicle Check
The Vehicle Check specialises in VW DQ381 DSG mechatronic fault diagnosis and repair. The DQ381 is a 7-speed wet clutch DSG gearbox fitted to a range of Volkswagen models including Golf, Tiguan, Passat and Arteon. Mechatronic failure on the DQ381 is a well-documented fault pattern — causing fault codes P1735, P1736 and P0805 alongside limp mode activation. We repair and clone DQ381 mechatronic units at component level. Nationwide mail-in postal service with drop off at our Enfield office.
What is the VW DQ381 DSG?
The DQ381 is a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox introduced by Volkswagen in 2017 to replace the DQ250 in higher torque applications. It is fitted to Golf GTI, Golf R, Tiguan, Passat, Arteon and several other VAG group models. The mechatronic unit controls all gearbox functions — clutch engagement, gear selection, hydraulic pressure regulation and shift timing. When the mechatronic develops an internal fault the gearbox enters limp mode and stores specific fault codes.
The DQ381 mechatronic shares similar failure patterns to the DQ250 and DQ200 — internal solenoid failure, circuit board component degradation and hydraulic contamination over time. Our full mechatronic repair and cloning service covers all DQ381 variants. If you need the fault confirmed before sending, our bench testing service can diagnose the mechatronic accurately off-vehicle.
DQ381 Mechatronic Fault Codes
Shift fork position sensor fault — gear selection position reporting incorrectly due to mechatronic failure.
Shift fork position sensor range fault — sensor values outside of expected range indicating mechatronic internal fault.
Clutch position sensor circuit fault — commonly stored on DQ381 mechatronic failure alongside P1735 and P1736.
Mechatronic unit internal fault — general mechatronic failure code stored on DQ381 and DQ200 gearboxes.
Transmission control module — internal hardware fault. Indicates mechatronic circuit board failure.
Transmission control system malfunction — general transmission fault code stored alongside more specific mechatronic codes.
