Peugeot ECU Repair by Post — Nationwide UK Mail-In Service
Your Peugeot has gone into limp mode, thrown a dozen fault codes, or simply refuses to start — and the dealer has just quoted you the thick end of £800 for a replacement ECU. Before you hand that over, there's a better route. Post your Peugeot ECU to us at The Vehicle Check, and in most cases we'll have it repaired, tested and back on your doorstep within 3–5 working days — at a fraction of what a new unit costs, with free return delivery included. No collection charges, no inflated main dealer margins, just a straight repair by people who genuinely know Peugeot electronics inside out.
Whether you're in Cornwall, Cumbria, Cardiff or Aberdeen, the process is exactly the same: remove the ECU, send it safely to our Enfield workshop, and let us get to work. Our mail-in repair service was built specifically for drivers who can't easily get to us in person — and it works just as well as a drive-in visit.
Which Peugeot Models and ECUs Do We Cover?
We repair ECUs across the entire Peugeot range. If it left a French production line with a PSA Group engine management unit under the bonnet, the chances are very high we've seen it on the bench. Common models we regularly work on include the 206, 207, 208, 307, 308, 407, 508, 2008, 3008, 5008, Partner, Expert and Boxer — covering petrol, diesel (including HDi variants) and hybrid drivetrains.
Typical Peugeot ECU faults we diagnose and repair include:
- Engine management light on with stored P-codes
- Limp mode / reduced power — particularly common on 1.6 HDi and 2.0 HDi engines
- No-start or intermittent start faults traced to ECU power supply or driver stage failure
- Water ingress damage — a frequent culprit on 307 and 308 models where the ECU sits in a vulnerable footwell location
- Injector driver failure causing rough running or misfires
- Internal relay and capacitor failure on older units
- Communication errors between ECU and BSI (Built-in Systems Interface)
Not sure if it's definitely the ECU at fault? Give us a call on 0203 489 2610 and we'll talk it through honestly. We won't take your money for a repair that won't fix the actual problem.

How Does the Peugeot ECU Mail-In Repair Process Work?
The process is deliberately straightforward — we've refined it so that even if you've never removed an ECU before, you won't be left guessing.
- Step 1 — Contact us first. Drop us a message via our contact page or call 0203 489 2610. Tell us the model, year and engine, the fault you're experiencing, and any codes you have. We'll confirm we can help before you remove anything.
- Step 2 — Remove the ECU. Your Peugeot's ECU location varies by model — on the 308 and 207 it's typically in the engine bay near the battery; on the 307 it can be in the passenger footwell. We're happy to advise on location and removal if needed.
- Step 3 — Pack it safely and send. Wrap the unit in bubble wrap, place it in a rigid box with padding on all sides, and ship it to us at Office 13, 25 Mollison Avenue, Enfield, EN3 7LW. Use a tracked service — Royal Mail Tracked 48, Parcelforce or any courier is fine.
- Step 4 — We diagnose and repair. Once received, we log your unit and begin diagnosis. We use dedicated Peugeot/PSA-compatible equipment alongside our own specialist test rigs. Repair and testing typically takes 1–3 working days.
- Step 5 — Free return delivery. We return your repaired ECU using a free tracked courier service. You refit it, and in the vast majority of cases — because we've repaired your original unit — it's plug-and-play, with no reprogramming required.
How Should I Package My Peugeot ECU for Posting?
Good packaging is the single thing that's most within your control, so it's worth doing properly. An ECU is a circuit board — fragile components, sensitive to shock and static.
- Use a rigid cardboard box — not a jiffy bag or padded envelope. If the ECU has a metal casing (most do), a small parcel box from any post office works well.
- Wrap in at least two layers of bubble wrap, securing with tape so it can't shift inside the box.
- Add extra padding — scrunched newspaper, foam, or packing peanuts around all sides. The unit should not be able to move if you shake the box.
- Remove all wiring connectors before packing. Don't send the wiring loom — just the ECU unit itself.
- Include a note inside with your name, phone number, vehicle details (make, model, year, engine) and a brief description of the fault. This speeds up processing significantly.
- Use a tracked service and keep the tracking number. We'll confirm receipt once it arrives.
Why Is Mail-In Repair Better Than Going to a Peugeot Dealer?
For most Peugeot owners, a mail-in specialist repair beats the dealer experience on almost every metric that matters.
| Factor | Peugeot Dealer | TVC Mail-In Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | High — new/reman unit + labour + programming | Significantly lower — repair of your original unit |
| Turnaround | Days to weeks (parts sourcing, workshop slots) | 3–5 working days from receipt |
| Reprogramming needed? | Yes — replacement units need coding to car | Usually no — original unit retains its data |
| Geographic limitation | Must attend local dealer | Anywhere in the UK |
| Return delivery | N/A — you collect in person | Free tracked return included |
Dealers are not electronics specialists — they're parts-changers. When a Peugeot diagnostic system flags an ECU fault, most dealer technicians will replace the unit rather than investigate what's actually failed on the board. That's expensive for you and wasteful. Our team repairs at component level, which means the underlying fault is genuinely fixed — not masked by swapping in a different unit.
What Makes The Vehicle Check the Right Choice for Peugeot ECU Repair?
The Vehicle Check has spent years working exclusively on automotive electronics — ECU repair, instrument cluster restoration, ABS module rebuilds, airbag control units, BCMs, immobilisers, gearbox ECUs and EPS systems. Peugeot and the wider PSA Group platform (which also covers Citroën and DS models) is territory we know in detail: the common failure points by model year, the specific components that degrade on PSA ECUs, and the correct test procedures to verify a genuine repair rather than just clearing codes and hoping for the best.
We're not a general garage that does a bit of everything. Automotive electronics is what we do, every single working day, for customers across the whole of the UK. That focus is what gives us the diagnostic depth and the component-level repair capability that most garages simply can't offer.
If your Peugeot also has ABS or stability control issues alongside ECU faults, it's worth knowing that we handle those too — see our ABS module repair service for details.
What Does Peugeot ECU Repair by Post Cost?
Pricing depends on the specific unit, the fault type and the extent of the repair required. Because we assess at component level rather than using a one-size-fits-all price list, we give you a confirmed quote once we've received and inspected the unit — with no obligation to proceed if you'd rather not. We won't carry out any repair without your approval first.
What we can say is that repair of your existing ECU will in almost all cases be substantially less than the cost of a new or remanufactured replacement unit from Peugeot. And because no reprogramming is typically required, there are no hidden extra costs further down the line.
