MINI FRM3 Data Repair — Post It to Us, Drive Away Fixed

Your MINI has gone strange overnight — windows stuck, lights refusing to play ball, central locking doing its own thing. Before you hand over a small fortune at a dealer for a new footwell module, there's a better option: post your FRM3 to The Vehicle Check, and we'll have it back on your doorstep, fully restored, within 3–5 working days.

What Is the FRM3 and Why Does It Fail?

The FRM3 — Footwell Module 3 — is the electronic brain that manages exterior lighting, windows, central locking, indicators and rain/light sensors on second-generation MINI models. It fails almost always for the same reason: a battery disconnect, a jump-start, or a low-voltage event corrupts the EEPROM data stored inside the module. The hardware itself is fine. The data isn't. That's where we come in.

At The Vehicle Check we read, repair and rewrite that EEPROM data directly — preserving your vehicle's original coding so the module goes back in as if nothing happened. No new part. No dealer coding session. No VIN mismatch headaches.

Which MINI Models Does This Repair Cover?

Our FRM3 data repair covers the full second-generation MINI range built between 2006 and 2014, including:

  • R55 – MINI Clubman (2007–2014)
  • R56 – MINI Hatch / Cooper / Cooper S (2006–2013)
  • R57 – MINI Convertible (2008–2015)
  • R58 – MINI Coupé (2011–2015)
  • R59 – MINI Roadster (2012–2015)

What Faults Does FRM3 Data Repair Resolve?

Corrupt EEPROM data in the FRM3 causes a wide spread of seemingly unrelated faults. The repair addresses all of them in one go:

  • All exterior lights dead or behaving erratically
  • Electric windows inoperative or one-touch function lost
  • Central locking not responding to key fob or interior button
  • Indicators flashing at the wrong speed or not at all
  • Instrument cluster warning lights for lighting faults
  • Rain sensor and automatic lights failing to activate
  • Stored fault codes pointing to the FRM or footwell module

Why Does Mail-In Beat Going to a Dealer?

A main dealer will almost always recommend a brand-new FRM3 unit — at anywhere between £400 and £900 fitted — because that's the path of least resistance for them. But the module in your MINI isn't faulty. The data on it is. Replacing it entirely means your new unit still has to be coded to your car, which is an additional labour charge on top of the part cost. Our mail-in data repair costs a fraction of that, takes the same week or less, and puts your original unit back exactly as it was. There's no mismatch, no additional coding, and no unnecessary parts cost.

Our nationwide mail-in repair service is designed for exactly this situation — a perfectly repairable component that just needs specialist attention, not replacement.

How Does the Mail-In Process Work?

Step 1 — Get in touch first

Give us a call on 0203 489 2610 or use our contact page to confirm your module is covered and get the go-ahead. This saves everyone time.

Step 2 — Remove the FRM3 from your MINI

The FRM3 module sits behind the footwell trim on the driver's side. Removal is straightforward — typically 20 to 30 minutes with basic tools. If you're unsure, your local independent MINI specialist can remove it for a small labour charge, which is still far cheaper than a dealer repair.

Step 3 — How should you package the FRM3 for posting?

Packaging it correctly protects the module and your money. Wrap the FRM3 in two layers of bubble wrap — pay particular attention to the connector pins. Place it inside a rigid cardboard box with at least 4cm of padding on all sides. Don't use an envelope or jiffy bag. Seal the box firmly with parcel tape, include a note inside with your name, phone number and a brief description of the fault, and send it tracked and signed-for. Royal Mail Tracked 24 or a courier like DPD or Evri are all fine. Send to:

Step 4 — We repair and return it

Once your FRM3 arrives we read the EEPROM, rebuild the data and verify the repair on our bench test equipment. You'll receive an email confirmation when it lands and a dispatch notification when it leaves — fully repaired, with free tracked return shipping included.

Step 5 — Refit and drive

Refit the module, reconnect the battery and that's it. Everything should come back to life immediately — no dealer visit, no diagnostic session, no coding charge.

Why Trust The Vehicle Check With Your FRM3?

The Vehicle Check is a dedicated automotive electronics repair specialist based in Enfield, EN3. Our team has over a decade of hands-on experience repairing modules across BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Group, Ford, Vauxhall and Volvo platforms. We don't outsource repair work — every module is diagnosed, repaired and verified in-house at our Enfield workshop using professional EEPROM reading and writing equipment. We've worked on hundreds of FRM and FRM3 units from across the UK, which means we've seen every variation of data corruption this module throws up. That experience matters when someone else's wrong move could brick your module permanently.

Our work also extends to ECU repair and cloning and ABS module repair — so if a diagnostic session uncovers additional electronic faults, we're well placed to help with those too, without you needing to find another specialist.
