The Mercedes Sprinter fitted with the 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox uses an ISM gear selector module that is particularly prone to failure in the commercial vehicle environment. The Sprinter's electrical system is subject to greater variation than a passenger car — battery drain from overnight refrigeration units, frequent jump starting and high auxiliary electrical loads all stress the ISM.
