Mercedes 9G-Tronic Mechatronic Repair and Cloning | The Vehicle Check
The Vehicle Check specialises in Mercedes 9G-Tronic mechatronic repair and cloning. The 9G-Tronic — also known as the 725.0 transmission — is Mercedes-Benz's 9-speed automatic gearbox fitted to the full range of C-Class, E-Class, GLC, GLE and other models from 2014 onwards. Mechatronic failure on the 9G-Tronic is an increasingly common fault as these vehicles age. We repair and clone 9G-Tronic mechatronic units at component level. Nationwide mail-in postal service with drop off at our Enfield office.
Mercedes 9G-Tronic — What Goes Wrong
The Mercedes 9G-Tronic mechatronic unit combines the electronic transmission control module and the hydraulic valve body into a single integrated assembly — managing all gear selection, shift timing, clutch pack pressure and torque converter control functions. When the mechatronic develops an internal fault — typically through solenoid wear, circuit board component degradation or hydraulic contamination — the gearbox enters limp mode and stores specific fault codes.
The 9G-Tronic is a more complex transmission than the older 7G-Tronic and the mechatronic is correspondingly more expensive to replace at main dealer level — often exceeding £2,500 for parts alone. Our repair and cloning service offers a reliable, cost-effective alternative. Our full mechatronic repair and cloning service covers all 9G-Tronic variants. For confirmation of the fault before sending, our bench testing service can diagnose it accurately off-vehicle. See also our Mercedes mechatronic repair page for full coverage of all Mercedes transmission variants.
9G-Tronic Mechatronic Fault Codes
Transmission control system malfunction — general fault stored on 9G-Tronic mechatronic failure.
Mechatronic unit internal fault — commonly stored on both 7G-Tronic and 9G-Tronic mechatronic failures.
Gear ratio incorrect faults — stored when mechatronic solenoids are failing to correctly control hydraulic pressure.
Shift solenoid fault codes — solenoid A through E malfunction indicating mechatronic internal solenoid failure.
Transmission fluid pressure sensor faults — mechatronic pressure regulation system failure.
Mercedes specific transmission control unit fault codes stored in SBC or ETC module when mechatronic fails.
9G-Tronic Fault Symptoms

- Transmission warning light or message on dashboard
- Gearbox refusing to engage drive or reverse
- Harsh, jerky or erratic gear changes
- Gearbox slipping or hunting between gears
