A flashing clock display or time that constantly resets is one of the most recognisable Ford ACM amplifier faults. The clock is displayed through the ACM unit in many Ford models and when the ACM's internal power supply or capacitors begin to fail, the clock loses its reference and either flashes continuously or resets to 12:00 every time the car is started. Why the Ford ACM Clock Flashes
The ACM's clock function is maintained by a small internal capacitor that holds time data when the ignition is off. When this capacitor degrades — which it does over time and is accelerated by heat — it can no longer hold the charge required to maintain the time. The result is a flashing display, a resetting clock or intermittent display dropout.
In more advanced cases the capacitor has failed completely and is drawing excessive current from the ACM's internal power supply, which causes additional faults including loss of audio, display flickering and random module resets.
Full ACM Repair — Not a Reset
Many garages attempt to resolve this fault with a battery disconnect or module reset. These steps do not fix the underlying hardware failure and the fault returns within days or weeks.
