What does a Fiat BCM actually do — and why does cloning fix the problem?
Your Fiat's body control module is the central nerve of the car's comfort and convenience systems. It manages central locking, interior lighting, the instrument cluster, window switches, the alarm, and in many models the immobiliser loop. When it fails — through water ingress, a voltage spike, or simple age-related component failure — the symptoms can be confusingly varied: doors that won't lock, lights that behave erratically, a dash that stays dark, or a car that simply refuses to start despite a healthy battery and a good key.
Because the BCM holds data unique to your vehicle — the VIN, the key pairing information, and the options your specific car was built with — swapping in a second-hand unit from a breaker's yard usually results in a car that still won't start, or that throws a cascade of fault codes. Cloning solves this cleanly: we read every byte of data from your existing unit and write it precisely to a known-good replacement, so the new module believes it is the original. For most Fiat models the result is a plug-in swap with no further dealer programming needed.

Which Fiat models and BCM part numbers do you cover?
We work across a broad spread of Fiat platforms — including the Fiat 500 (both the classic 312 body and the 2015-onward 334 body), Panda (169 and 319), Punto (199), Bravo (198), Doblo (223 and 263), and the Ducato van platform. Common BCM part numbers we see include the Bosch-sourced units with prefixes such as 51870xxx and 51930xxx, as well as Magneti Marelli-sourced modules found on older Punto and Panda variants. The number printed on your own unit's label is what matters — contact us with it and we will confirm compatibility before you post anything.
We also handle BSI cloning for vehicles where Fiat used a combined body and security integration module. If you are unsure whether your car has a BCM, a BSI, or both, a quick call to 0203 489 2610 will get you a straight answer.
How do I package and post my Fiat BCM safely?
Packaging is the step that matters most for a smooth mail-in experience — a damaged unit in transit can complicate the job significantly.
- Use a rigid cardboard box, not a padded envelope. The BCM has a connector housing that can shear if the parcel is bent or crushed.
- Wrap in bubble wrap — at least two layers around all sides, with particular attention to the connector edge.
- Fill any void space in the box with crumpled paper or foam so the unit cannot shift during transit.
- Label the outside with your name, return address, vehicle registration and a contact number.
- Use a tracked and insured courier service — Royal Mail Tracked 48 or a next-day courier both work well. Keep your proof of postage.
- Address to: The Vehicle Check, Office 13, 25 Mollison Avenue, Enfield, EN3 7NJ.
We recommend calling or emailing before you post so we can log your job, confirm the part number, and give you an accurate lead time. That way there is no delay when your parcel arrives.
How does posting to TVC compare with going to a Fiat dealer?
| Factor | The Vehicle Check — mail-in cloning | Fiat main dealer |
|---|---|---|
| Turnaround | 3–5 working days from receipt | Variable — parts lead times often 1–3 weeks |
| Need to bring the car in | No — post the module only | Yes — and often a recovery vehicle too |
| Data preserved from original unit | Yes — full clone of your existing BCM | New unit — requires full programming session |
| Available across the UK | Yes — nationwide mail-in | Dependent on local dealer network |
| Return delivery | Free tracked return included | Not applicable — collect in person |
Why trust The Vehicle Check with your Fiat's BCM?
The Vehicle Check has spent years working specifically on automotive electronics — not general servicing, not bodywork, not tyres. Our focus is the modules that other garages and dealers struggle with: body control units, mechatronic assemblies, clutch actuators, crash data modules and more. That narrow specialisation means the engineers handling your Fiat BCM have seen the same failure modes, the same part numbers and the same VIN-binding quirks many times before. We bench-test every cloned unit before it leaves us.
If your car also has a mechatronic or clutch actuator fault alongside the BCM issue, take a look at our mechatronic repair and cloning service and our clutch actuator repair service — both available by post on the same mail-in basis. We also handle SRS airbag module crash data reset if your Fiat has been in an accident and the airbag module is storing locked crash data.
