ECU Cloning Service by Post — Sent Anywhere in the UK

Your car is sitting on the drive, the dealer wants three weeks and an eye-watering quote, and a secondhand ECU from the scrapper is no use without the right coding. Sound familiar? There is a faster, smarter route: pop your ECU in a box, post it to us, and we will have it cloned, coded and back with you — usually inside five working days, with free return delivery included. No tow truck, no courtesy-car faff, no drama.

At The Vehicle Check, we have spent years doing exactly this for drivers across the UK — from the Highlands to Cornwall — handling ECU cloning for everything from everyday Fords and Vauxhalls to prestige BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volkswagen platforms. Our mail-in service is built around one principle: expert repair, delivered to your door.

What Is ECU Cloning and Why Does Your Car Need It?

ECU cloning is the process of transferring the exact data from your vehicle's original Engine Control Unit onto a replacement or donor unit, including the unique immobiliser and anti-theft coding that keeps the car tied to its keys. It is not the same as a generic remap or a blanket software flash — it is a precise, vehicle-specific operation.

You need ECU cloning when:

  • Your existing ECU has failed and a secondhand unit needs matching to your car
  • You have bought a replacement ECU and it will not start the vehicle
  • Your immobiliser is stuck in a loop and will not release
  • You need to preserve mileage data and original coding on a new unit
  • A dealer has quoted you for a new ECU at a cost that makes your eyes water

If you are unsure whether cloning is the right fix, visit our full ECU repair page where we break down all the options — repair, recode, clone and beyond.

How Does the Mail-In ECU Cloning Service Work?

The process is genuinely straightforward and we have refined it over hundreds of mail-in jobs to make sure nothing goes wrong in transit or on the bench.

Step 1 — Give Us a Call or Drop Us a Message

Before you send anything, have a quick chat with us on 0203 489 2610 or use our contact page. Tell us the make, model, year and engine code. We will confirm the job, quote you a fixed price and give you any specific instructions for your unit. No guesswork, no hidden fees added later.

Step 2 — Package Your ECU Safely for Posting

ECUs are robust but connector pins are not — a little care here saves a lot of time. Follow these packaging tips:

  • Bubble wrap first: Wrap the unit in at least two layers of bubble wrap, paying attention to the connector block.
  • Double-box it: Place the wrapped unit inside a small inner box, then put that inside a larger outer box with at least 4 cm of packing material — screwed-up brown paper, foam peanuts or off-cuts of bubble wrap — on all sides.
  • No rattling: Shake the box gently. If anything moves, add more packing.
  • Label clearly: Write your name, return address and phone number on a slip of paper inside the box as well as on the outside — just in case the outer label is damaged in transit.
  • Insure it: Use a tracked and insured courier service such as Royal Mail Special Delivery, ParcelForce or DPD. Avoid untracked services for any electronics.

Send it to: Office 13, 25 Mollison Avenue, Enfield, EN3 7LW. Let us know the tracking number once it is booked so we can watch out for it.

Step 3 — We Work on Your ECU

Once your unit lands on the bench, our technicians use professional-grade OBD and bench cloning equipment to read your original ECU data and write it faithfully onto your replacement unit. We check immobiliser sync, software versions and PIN data as part of every clone job — not as an optional extra. For complex platforms such as BMW Siemens, Bosch ME units, Delphi or Marelli, we have years of hands-on experience and the specific adaptors to match.

Step 4 — Your ECU Is Returned Free of Charge

We despatch your cloned ECU back to you with free tracked return delivery. Depending on where you are in the UK, you will typically have it back within one to two days of us sending it. Total end-to-end time from us receiving your unit: 3–5 working days in most cases, and we will message or call you the moment it is on its way.

Why Does Mail-In ECU Cloning Beat the Dealer?

Dealers have their place, but for ECU cloning specifically, they are rarely the right call. Here is why drivers across the UK choose TVC instead:

Factor Main Dealer The Vehicle Check
Turnaround 1–3 weeks typical 3–5 working days
Price New unit + labour Fixed, transparent quote
Return delivery You collect Free tracked return
Multi-make expertise One brand only All major makes
Need to visit? Yes — and arrange transport No — fully postal

Our mail-in repair service covers the entire UK — we regularly receive units from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the South West and everywhere in between. Distance is not a factor when the whole service runs through the post.

Which Vehicles and ECU Types Do We Clone?

We work across petrol, diesel and hybrid platforms covering the vast majority of vehicles on UK roads. Makes we regularly handle include BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Škoda, Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Land Rover, Jaguar and Volvo — spanning models from the early 2000s right through to the current 2026 model year.

ECU types we clone include Bosch EDC, ME, MED and MSA series, Siemens/Continental SID and PCR, Delphi DCM and MT series, Marelli MJD and IAW units, Denso and Hitachi platforms, and many more. If you are not sure about yours, just call — we will tell you straight away whether it is a job we can do.

If your car has an ABS fault alongside the ECU issue, take a look at our ABS module repair service — both jobs can often be posted to us together to save time and return postage costs.

Our Expertise — Why You Can Trust TVC With Your ECU

The Vehicle Check is an independent automotive electronics specialist based in Enfield, North London. We have built a reputation across the UK for honest diagnosis, transparent pricing and proper technical work — not guesswork, not generic resets. Our technicians have hands-on experience with ECU cloning, immobiliser programming, crash data reset, airbag module repair, DSG mechatronic repair and much more. We invest in the correct professional tooling for each platform rather than relying on generic scan tools, which is why our clones hold — cars start, immobilisers clear, and customers do not come back with the same fault a week later. We are the kind of workshop a mechanic calls when they are stuck, and that tells you everything you need to know.
