Audi DL501 S-Tronic Mechatronic Fault and Repair | The Vehicle Check

The Vehicle Check specialises in Audi DL501 S-Tronic mechatronic fault diagnosis and repair. The DL501 is a 7-speed wet dual-clutch S-Tronic gearbox fitted to Audi A4, A5, A6, A7 and Q5 models. Mechatronic failure on the DL501 is one of the most common and expensive faults on these vehicles — main dealer replacement costs can exceed £3,000. We repair and clone DL501 mechatronic units at component level at a fraction of that cost. Nationwide mail-in postal service with drop off at our Enfield office.

What is the Audi DL501 S-Tronic?

The DL501 — also referred to as the Audi 0B5 S-Tronic — is a longitudinally mounted 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox fitted to the larger Audi models with higher torque engines. It is a more complex unit than the transversely mounted DQ200 and DQ250 — combining the mechatronic control unit with a more intricate hydraulic system and a separate oil cooling circuit.

DL501 mechatronic failure is extremely common and well documented. The internal electronic components degrade over time, solenoids wear and the hydraulic pressure regulation system develops faults. The result is a gearbox in limp mode with specific fault codes stored. Our full mechatronic repair and cloning service covers the DL501 alongside all other Audi S-Tronic and DSG variants. If you need the fault confirmed first our bench testing service can diagnose it off-vehicle.

DL501 Mechatronic Fault Codes

P189A

Mechatronic unit — internal fault. One of the most common DL501 mechatronic fault codes.

P189E

Transmission control module hardware fault — stored when mechatronic circuit board develops internal failure.

P17BF

Mechatronic internal fault — frequently stored alongside P189A on DL501 failures.

P0826

Up and down shift switch input circuit fault — often stored when mechatronic hydraulic pressure is incorrect.

P0840

Transmission fluid pressure sensor circuit fault — mechatronic pressure regulation failure.

P0700

Transmission control system malfunction — general fault stored alongside specific DL501 codes.
